A new report from the Russian entertainment market gives us a hint on the genre of Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man 2.

t notes that the movie will be Marvel’s “first rom-com.” The news had been released at the Kinorynok event in Russia, and it is hard to make out the rest of its translation. There was some chemistry between Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) in their first movie, and it seems very natural that there will be a few romantic elements to its sequel.

Evangeline Lilly may have recently let some information slip in an interview with Vanity Fair. She had implied that Ant-Man and The Wasp might have a bigger part to play within MCU. She says that she is not the writer, but she does imagine that it may go in this way.

Evangeline Lily had this to say;

2 Will Be Marvel’s First Ever Rom-Com

Marvel movies, from Sony or Disney, have taken on quite different types of genres while making movies. Spider-Man: Homecoming is based off a 1980s John Hughes movie, Captain America: Civil War was inspired by spy movies, and the upcoming Infinity War movie is being compared to a heist movie. It now seems like Ant-Man, and the Wasp may be Marvel’s first ever romcom which will sit pretty well with a few fans.

“Those characters are experts in the quantum realm. In Ant-Man and the Wasp, they are trying everything in their power to safely enter the quantum realm and return back from it because they have evidence from the first film that Scott Lang was able to do that. If he can do it, why can’t we? If we do succeed in Ant-Man and the Wasp, then that does open a whole entire new multi-verse to enter into and play around in. I’m not the story creator, so I can’t tell you what they’re going to do with that. But I definitely see the potential there.”

Ant-Man and the Wasp being a romantic comedy does sound like quite the gamble, but it also makes sense for the MCU.
