The first full length trailer for Sony and Marvel’s Spider-man: Homecoming has arrived, and it is awesome it gives us our first look at Tom Holland as Peter Parker since his debut in Captain America: Civil War.
The trailer picks up with Spidey (Holland) navigating through high school, and then asking how to become an Avenger from the one and only Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.). We see some of his friends, few looks at his high school and, finally we get the much awaited first look at the villain known as the Vulture (Michael Keaton) who threatens to kill everyone Peter Parker loves.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is directed by Jon Watts, is a reboot of the reboot of Sony’s Spider-Man franchise. The two movies starring Andrew Garfield — especially the second one, 2014’s Amazing Spider-Man 2 — didn’t perform at the box office the way the studio wanted them to with bad reviews from all around the world. Homecoming brings Peter Parker back to his high school, but with a few mysteries, including what role Zendaya, Parker’s rumored love interest, will be playing in the film (the movie’s IMDB page is riddled with blanks, and many characters just have first names).
Homecoming is something new for Sony and Marvel in that Spider-Man usually lives in a separate cinematic universe from Marvel’s Avengers properties (as do the X-Men) because of film rights. But in 2015 Sony signed a deal with Marvel, which finally allows spidey to become an avenger.
And from the looks of its trailer, it we may be in for a promising start.
Update: We get another Spider-man trailer which is basicly the the international version of the same trailer with some extra footage of Tony Stark talking with Spidey and it also shines a bit more light on the motives of the vulture and gives us the first look at Shocker.
Spider-Man: Homecoming will hit theaters on July 7, 2017.
