Marvel Series We Want To See:
- Ghost Rider
- Moon Knight
1. Ghost Rider
We are in a day and age where this sort of character would be best represented in a TV or Netflix series. It would really provide a lot of time to give an extensive origin story for the character Johnny Blaze, likely more so than what we’d see in a film or even multiple films (Yes, I am referring to the lackluster films that Ghost Rider received a few years back). On a TV/Netflix budget, there of course would not be as much crazy action and CGI as a film would contain. But in turn, a series provides a lot more room for deep character development and establishing a character. This is evident in series such as Jessica Jones, which is a prime example of a character with extensive backstory and history that utilizes the platform of a series very well. On top of all this, there are already rumors that Marvel does indeed plan to create a Ghost Rider series.
Can you imagine Hawkeye having his own TV or Netflix series? It would be a perfect fit for the character. From seeing his family life on the farm, to training routines, along with combat missions, you couldn’t really go wrong. The show would also be affordable, especially for Marvel. As he does live out in the countryside and far from any main cities, the show could also be very self-contained. This would not be a bad thing however, as it would make perfect sense and stop us from saying “Why are no other heroes showing up?”. This isn’t to say that Maria Hill, Nick Fury or Black Widow couldn’t have a cameo at some point. The overall purpose of the series would be to show Hawkeye’s life in between the big ensemble films, as he doesn’t have his own franchise like other heroes. The only issue I could see would be Jeremy Renner having time constraints, but it wouldn’t matter because Netflix series are filmed in one clump, the same way as a film.
3. Moon Knight
Now, the whole concept of Moon Knight may seem a little too extreme for any series. But trust me, this is the sort of thing that a Marvel series excels at. If they can make and Iron Fist series, than this can also be done. With good writers, directors and a well-planned story, Marvel have the ability to pull this off. For those unfamiliar with the character, Marc Spector is former mercenary, boxer and Marine. He fights crime under the name of Moon Knight, utilizing his extraordinary training, gadgets, and super-strength which he has derived from the lunar cycle. There has been additional rumors suggesting that Marvel has the intent to create this series at some point. Sounds good to me, it sure would be incredible to see Moon Knight fighting alongside The Defenders in the future.
There were 3 Blade films released from 1998 through 2004, but we haven’t seen the character represented in live action ever since then. What better way to introduce Blade into the MCU than a TV/Netflix series? It’s clear that Marvel’s movie schedule is already planned out and packed for at least the next 5 years. Due to that, TV/Netflix would be the perfect introduction for the iconic character into the modern Marvel Cinematic Universe and would also provide the opportunity to see him alongside our other favorite characters such as The Punisher. Can you even imagine?
Of course we need another female-led series in here and Hellcat is the perfect option. We got to see the origin and establishment of Patsy Walker in the Jessica Jones series and she was essentially being set up to become Hellcat. We saw her constantly training for self defense and she became a much more capable person by the end of the season. Now is the perfect time for her own series to run, as we would truly get to see her evolve into a crime-fighting vigilante just like Daredevil and Jessica Jones. This could also be a platform for her to become part of The Defenders alongside Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Daredevil.
Note: Please keep in mind when reading this, that I have tried to be as realistic as possible with these choices. The reason I did not list Black Widow for example, is because Kevin Feige (Marvel Studios President) has actually stated that a Black Widow solo film is in development and is absolutely something Marvel wants to do in Phase 4 of their Cinematic Universe.
