Warner Bros., once again, tries to get this project happen.
During the recent episode of Meet the Movie Press, The Wrap’s Jeff Sneider dropped that Warner Bros. wants Justin Lin (Star Trek Beyond, Fast & Furious 6) to direct the live-action Akira remake.
Warner Bros. has been trying to get an Akira live-action remake made ever since 2002. An americanized version, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and starring Garett Hedlund, almost got off the ground a few years back. Production, however, was shut down in order for Warner Bros. could scrutinize the budget.
Around this time last year, Warner Bros. apparently commissioned Sons of Anarchy writer and Daredevil Season 2 showrunner, Marco R. Ramirez, to write a script. Christopher Nolan was also rumored to be attached to the film, which was then being eyed as a trilogy, but those rumors died out pretty quickly.
The movie would be in good hands with Justin Lin. Not sure when Warner Bros. wants this to happen exactly, given Lin’s upcoming work schedule that consists of Space Jam 2 and possibly the next Star Trek.
