During the Rich Eisen Show, Matthew McConaughey revealed the news that there has been talks about bringing back the HBO show, with McConaughey reprising his role of Rust Cohle from Season 1.
He had this to say;
I miss Rust Cohle, man. I miss watching him on Sunday nights. I miss watching True Detective on Sunday nights … I was a happy man when we made that for six months.
He also made it clear that they’d only do it if they had a great idea and would require the “right context.”

True Detective was met with universal acclaim upon it’s series premiere in 2014. Season 2, however, faired no where near as well. Even to the point that it looked like the show was dead, up until this point. A lot of people wouldn’t usually be interested in a season 3, but the return of Rust Cohle would certainly convert them.
This would be great to see. Rust Cohle is such a fantastic character, and McConaughey played him so well. If they do this though, they just need to take their time, unlike season 2. Even former HBO president, Michael Lombardo, took the blame on season 2 and claimed they rushed series creator, Nic Pizzollato.
What do you all think? Should True Detective stay dead, or would you actually like to see this? We’ll be sure to update you as more news about True Detective becomes available.
